Rifugio Guglielmina
Queen Margerita of Savoy was a keen mountain climber, and to her delight the highest ever hotel was inaugurated in 1878 in Olen pass at 2909m, high above the village of Alagna Valsesia.
The founder was shoemaker Giuseppe Guglielmina, who became a hotel entrepreneur. This is where mountaineers could rest on their way to the top of Monte Rosa.
Today the Rifugio Guglielmina is run by the sixth generation Guglielmina, namely Alberto, a former shoemaker. Since only a very few years there is heat and running water in the hotel, and an impressive wine cellar with around 6000 bottles. Guglielmina is where we like to steer our guests’ skis for good food, a grappa in front of the stove, a good night’s sleep and a completely legendary sunrise.
