Hannibal
The warlord Hannibal is known for taking 37 elephants across the Alps in 218 BC.
Even today, the dispute whether the Carthaginian war army went into Italy via the ski areas Serre Chevalier, Montgenèvre and Sauze d’Oulx, or if it was via Petit St. Bernard Pass and gentle slopes in La Rosière / La Thuile remains. They defied “a roaring snowstorm and lost a large number of elephants”, but persisted and eventually camped north of the off-piste slopes of Gran Paradiso.
We are happy to follow the footsteps of Hannibal with skis on our feet, with or without the company of elephants.
