Pre-season with monks and powder snow

The company wanted to gather its’ 20 employees in the Alps before Christmas and needed a good snow resort. On their wish list was Skiing, culture and out-of the-ordinary experiences.

We wanted to find a place where not all Swedes had already been. Through the years we have met some tourist directors in the Alps that actually like Scandinavians. Frédéric Füssenich is one of them and a few mobile phone calls later we had put together a suitable program.

Disentis and Sedrun are two small villages in the canton of Grisons in eastern Switzerland, the only canton where the odd language of Romansh still lives on. The villages share the same tourist office but not lift tickets, and so most of the participants could count two new ski resorts on their lists. Disentis has a slightly larger ski area than Sedrun. The Alpine Glacier Express rail link is well suited for transportation of course but also good place for after-ski between the resorts.

There were meetings both at the hotel and in one of the mountain huts. In the latter option it was extra fast for the brain to switch the focus from power point to powder snow. The fact that we had record snow levels as for December probably helped a lot. In order to satisfy cultural needs we met a monk at the monastery who gave us a lecture on the history of the valley. We also made a study tour underground. An amazingly long train tunnel that will link the northern and southern Alps is now under construction. We decided to visit the project and we all came to the conclusion that we prefer being 800 meters up the mountain than down. Talking about pleasures, do not miss the local dish Capuns.

With this done, Christmas could be celebrated quietly at home with family. But only for the moment…
